Venue and Program Holiday Inn – We had a terrific program from Perry F. Baltimore III. Perry is the President & Executive Director of the Marshall Legacy Institute, joining MLI in 1998 after serving in the US Army for 27 years. His military experience provided him the opportunity to witness firsthand the human condition throughout much of the developing world, including Afghanistan, Angola, Iraq, Rwanda, Somalia and Vietnam. Colonel Baltimore has traveled extensively to build mine action partnerships, particularly in support of MLI’s “pet” program – the K9 Demining Corps Campaign.
MLI launched the Mine Detection Dog Partnership Program (MDDPP) in 1999. The program utilizes government and private donations to purchase, train and deliver Mine Detection Dogs (MDDs) to landmine removal organizations within a mine-affected country. There are currently more than 900 MDDs working in 24 countries; MLI has donated more than 200 of those dogs. Since launching the MDD program, MLI’s life-saving dogs have searched more than 45 million square meters of mine-contaminated land (see our Where We Work page), saving countless lives! Learn how to fully sponsor a life-saving MDD or join our Share-A-Dog program!

A HISTORIC EVENT THAT YOU JUST CANNOT MISS!
As you may know, Rotary International Conventions are fun, life-changing events and most are overseas – which creates a major barrier for many club members. But in 2018, local Rotarians will benefit from some historically fortunate scheduling. The Toronto convention is an exciting location that is driveable from Martinsburg – or you can fly or take Amtrak.

2018 Rotary International Convention, June 24 – 27 in Toronto. Official online info

FOUR WAY TEST
Of the things we think, say or do –
Is it the truth?
Is it fair to all concerned?
Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
I hope this edition of The Grapevine helped get your week off to a fine start. We look forward to seeing you each Thursday at Rotary.

GETTING STUFF IN THE GRAPEVINE (AND MORE) –
Please provide as much of the following as possible: (1) sponsoring organization(s), (2) event or project name, (3) dates/times, (4) location, (5) cause, (6)  beneficiaries,(7) costs/needs, (8) actions needed/requested, (9) graphic or flyer, (10) contact name/phone/email, and (11) link to website, if applicable.
Please provide all essential info via email (a printed flyer is not ideal) email to [email protected] before noon Friday at latest.
The absolute deadline for submitting material to The Grapevine is noon Friday for the weekly issue that goes out Monday. This deadline is necessary so The Grapevine may be compiled and uploaded on Friday afternoon for automatic distribution very early each Monday – to our members and to the print shop, where it is printed/mailed for timely receipt by members who don’t have email.
Community announcements: Although Rotary announcements are the top priority, a special section is maintained to showcase community announcements for charitable purposes of charitable organizations that seem most actionable and relevant to Rotarians. If your community announcement meets these standards but was not included, it may be because clear/written info was not received at our Thursday meeting, or via email by our deadline. Any community announcement to be published for a non-charitable organization or purpose should always be pre-cleared with the President.
Limiting use of special emails:The Grapevine is our general means of communicating with members between meetings. Therefore, to help us avoid excessive emails to our members, please observe The Grapevine’s Friday noon deadline so that your info may be included in the next week’s edition. Any material for a special notice, bulletin or email should be especially pertinent to club activity and too time-sensitive to wait until the next Grapevine.  If in doubt, please check with President to insure inclusion.
Got it wrong or left something out? Please email [email protected] right away with all essential info  so that it may be published in the next edition of The Grapevine.
With The Grapevine, each Rotarian is a reporter.  As editor, I mainly compile, edit and publish.  Thanks for your support and cooperation
