Programs:

Last week – Dr. Rich Cassucio spoke in costume as Dr. Benjamin Rush, little-known Founding Father who instigated the Boston Tea Party after being radicalized by the passage of the Stamp Act that imposed huge taxes on written material coming from abroad. He cast the deciding vote for independence from England, he believed in education for women and equality of the races, and he became the father of psychiatry in America.

Club Announcements:

  • President Steve announced new members: Tracy Regalia, Craig Altman, and Adam Weaver.
  • The Board passed a sliding scale of dues for corporate members starting at $600 per year.
  • Derby Days will be held on May 2. See the attached flyer.
  • Blue Ridge CTC Rotaract Club is collecting items for the Humane Society. Attached is a list of items they could really use.
  • Rotary Golf tournament will be held Monday, July 27 at The Woods. See the attached flyer.

50/50:

Chris Pifer sold tickets. There were 41 cards in the deck. Kevin Starliper had the winning ticket but did not draw the four of diamonds.

Student Guests: We will welcome student guests from Spring Mills High School in March. Rotarian Tina Combs introduced Tonya Fleming, who introduced two outstanding students:

  • Keyzar Dominguez has a 4.6 GPA and will attend WVU to major in biochemistry and minor in dance. She hopes to become a doctor and return to Berkeley County to practice and also run a dance studio.
  • Trey Canby is a leader in the Air Force Junior ROTC, attended Boys State, and has participated in many volunteer projects through ROTC. He credits ROTC with making him an effective leader.
